Our courses are designed to help you learn programming skills through practice. Here are the practical projects you'll complete with the help of a mentor as part of this course:
Welcome to Computing
We'll dive into the history of computers and explore why they came about, how we design them and how we can communicate with them through the art of programming and logic.
Thinking Like a Robot
Learn how to think in a way that lets you convert your ideas into programming reality. Put your thoughts into algorithms and code to accomplish complex tasks using Delphi in a breeze - it's not far from what we do every day already.

Computer science isn’t only for those that want to be programmers. This course teaches you how to think logically, through powerful methods like decomposition and abstraction. It develops problem solving skills that you can apply outside of the context of technology. You also learn the valuable skill of programming, which is becoming more important in the technological economy we’re in.
As much as non-technical people can benefit from this course, this doesn’t diminish its value to aspiring computer scientists. You will be challenged, and learn the fundamentals on which your future studies will be grounded in. A vital course to take.
- Motivation and dedication to learn, and apply your mind to more complex tasks in programming.
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English
- Basic computer skills, such as sending emails, file navigation, saving files and opening files.
- Note that this MicroDegree is suitable for beginner-level programmers, since it covers introductory content for each concept.
Equipment and Technologies
-Access to a computer and a broadband internet connection *
-A machine that meets the technical requirements to run Delphi. Please see: https://www.embarcadero.com/products/delphi/downloads . More information on the installation of Delphi will be given in the course.
-An email address where course content and other important course information can be delivered.
*The use of Dropbox means you’re not required to be always online while taking this MicroDegree. Even if you don’t have internet - perhaps due to some loadshedding - you can still access your Dropbox folder and continue to edit/update files. As soon as you have internet again, your Dropbox will sync with your trainer and he or she will see your changes. Dropbox and our own website is also available on everything from Blackberry to Apple tablets - so you will be able to learn while on the move.
